Ask A Recruiter with I-Jung Lee

9/1/2022

One of our recruiters responds to a question about how writing your resume in a specific way will help your application rise to the top of the stack on LinkedIn or any other ATS.

Q: How can I improve my CV or LinkedIn profile based on how a recruiter look for candidates?

A: Use (the right) Keywords in your resume and profile.

These are words or phrases that are particular in your line of work or role. It can be programming skills (Phyton, JAVA, etc.), language/s (Mandarin, Korean, French, etc.), market experience (ASIA, SEA, EU, etc.), action words (business growth, strategy work, budgeting, team management etc.).

Keywords play a huge role in search work from a recruiter’s perspective – and a great profile can easily be missed. It may improve your chances of being selected for an interview because your CV is clear and concise, and it may also appear at the top of an online search (LinkedIn, Google etc.) by recruiters. To know what keywords to use, you could for example look at JDs for roles you are interested in.

Another thing to always have in your CV would be a short introduction of yourself, summarizing your professional experience and what value you believe you will bring to the table.

Finally, if you can pick out and bullet some of your main career achievements, that is a great way for you to “brag” about yourself and in a clear way show your main accomplishments.
